01.04.2011 SYNÆSTHESIA
: drawing words, reading pictures

08-17 April at The Substation Gallery
(45 Armenian Street)
1900-2100 (opening night)
1000-2100 (daily)

SYNÆSTHESIA is a serial experiment that crosses the boundaries between two genres of art: the written word and the image. A collaboration between 17 pairs of writers and artists, Synæsthesia is the product of a marriage between form and words that exist beyond the page.

Synæsthesia is recognised as a neurological condition in which sensory and cognitive pathways criss-cross, resulting in individuals that report experiences such as perceiving letters and numbers to be inherently coloured, or hearing sounds in response to visual motion. In art, these multi-sensory experiences are often celebrated as the ongoing discovery of the possibilities of perception.

11.01.2011 Kult Issue 05 : FEAR

Invited to interpret one of the A-Z of phobias, "Radiophobia (Fear of radiation, x-rays)" for the upcoming special issue, FEAR

"Fear is a human being’s emotional response to a perceived threat. We all have our own personal fears, ranging from loneliness, old age, to death. As modern life brings about the advent of new diseases, new technology, and terrorism, contemporary society is presented with a new range of threats that bring about new phobias.

Are our phobias irrational or justified? What do our emotional responses to these fears tell us about ourselves? With new threats surfacing each day, how do we adapt the way we live?"

09.08.2010 CERIPH issue one launch

“Poetry is a luxury we cannot afford”,

— Lee Kwan Yew famously declared in 1969, explaining Singapore’s focus on economic growth.

It has been thirty years since the price of poetry was decided for us. Between the launch of Issue Zero and the compilation of Issue One, the overwhelming response of both readers and writers have shown that we are now deciding for ourselves the value of creative works emerging from Singapore—and it is a value that we hope will continue rising, becoming visible over our concrete skyline.
